When you join Sigma Alpha you become a member for life. Sigma Alpha sisters share a bond that spans over the years and will always give you the sense of security and belonging.
Why Join Sigma Alpha?
Sigma Alpha is a national sorority with over 50 chapters located across the country. Sigma Alpha is a social as well as a professional sorority. We are the only sorority at Fresno State that is both social and professional. We are strongly tied to agriculture; however we are not all agriculture related majors. We have been recognized at Fresno State as a sorority since 2001 meaning that you could be a very significant part of our history and traditions!
The Benefits
Sisterhood: We invite you to get to know us for yourself by attending our rush activities sometime within the first month of each semester. Sigma Alpha is the perfect place for you to get to know many different people, here at school, through the Greek system and by networking in the agricultural industry. There are also opportunities for making friends on other campuses with whom you share Sigma Alpha- regional conferences, national conventions or just a visit to another chapter.
Job Advantages: Recruiters know that the sorority experience prepares a young lady for success. Both females elected to the US Supreme court were sorority members. Of the nation’s 50 largest corporations, Greeks lead 43 of them. When you go out to seek your occupation you will use many of the skills you have acquired through the experience of being a Sigma Alpha. Sigma Alpha has turned out several alumni that have become successful in the USDA and other leaders of the agriculture community.
Living: Our sorority currently does not have a house. This makes our sorority more affordable than many other sororities. Although, many of the sisters do live together in their own houses.
Prestige: Sigma Alpha offers a group to identify with and it is an accomplishment to complete the membership candidate process and become a member. After school is over, being able to call yourself an alumni adds to an even greater feeling of achievement.
Personal Growth: This is a chance to learn the value of teamwork; to learn leadership by doing and to develop a sense of responsibility by taking it on yourself. You will always have a support network through the members and an opportunity to learn about experiences or gain advice from older sisters and alumni.
Professional Growth: Fine tune your professional skills, organization, time-management and follow-through by hearing guest speakers, working in groups, or through the advice of an alumni.
Scholastic Advantages: Sigma Alpha requires all members to have a 2.5 GPA for a member to be in good standing. Our scholarship sessions are an excellent resource for advice and tutoring from our sisters who know the courses and professors. The Sigma Alpha Educational Files, which contain sister’s schoolwork and tests from years past, are also an excellent resource for all your college studying and often help many of the sisters.
Good Times: We enjoy the Sorority and have pride in it. Sorority and fraternity members maintain a balance between the classroom and personal time. Events such as date parties, retreats and formals are just a few of the activities offered to you as a Fresno State Greek.
